|Class: Class M|
|Affiliation: Romulan Star Empire|
A Class M planet colonized by what is believed to be a breakaway people of Vulcan ancestory, Romulus is the center of the Romulan Star Empire and is separated from the Klingon Empire and United Federation of Planets by neutral zones. It is so named by Terrans for its orbit with its twin planet Remus.
Romulus is a larger Class M planet, with a healthy mixture of land and oceans. Its land is mostly urbanized by its advanced inhabitants.
The Romulan government holds remarkable similarities with the Roman Republic on Earth. A senate makes most of the decisions for the empire, along with some political offices being simiar: Preator, Proconsul, and Senator.
Their aggressive attitude toward other species resulted in the Earth-Romulan War, which cemented hatred and distrust between the Romulan Star Empire and the United Federation of Planets for centuries afterwards.
Romulus is inhabited by Romulans, who are believed to be a breakaway group of proto-Vulcans during a time of political and philosophical turmoil on what was then a war-torn Vulcan homeworld. Since their colonization of Romulus, the Romulans have adopted a xenophobic attitude towards outsiders, often attacking to defend themselves even when not seriously provoked.
The second species inhabiting Romulus, to a degree, are the Remans. The Remans are treated as second-rate citizens of the Empire and had been used as slave labor in the past on their original world Remus, which has produced hatred and distrust between the two races. They were used extensively for their combat prowess during the Dominion War, and executed a successful coup, though shortlived, of the Romulan dominated government with the help of Shinzon.
